Volunteers needed for the Emergency Program Executive Committee

Bowen Island Municipality has recently established an Emergency Management Program (EMP) with the adoption of Bylaw No. 428, 2016.

Council is inviting members of the public to apply for a position on the Emergency Program Executive Committee. Reporting to Council, this committee will provide strategic direction and oversight to the Emergency Program Management Committee. Additional duties include:

Drop off excess household waste, appliances and mattresses for a small fee. You must purchase your ticket in advance - payment will not be accepted on site. Please note, drywall will not be accepted.

Parcel Tax Review Panel

The sitting of the Parcel Tax Review Panel is an opportunity for individuals to appeal the validity of the Parcel Tax Roll on one of the following grounds:

a) there is an error or omission respecting a name or address on the parcel tax roll;
b) there is an error or omission respecting the inclusion of a parcel;
c) there is an error or omission respecting the taxable area or the taxable frontage of a parcel;
d) an exemption has been improperly allowed or disallowed.

Bowen Island to receive infrastructure funding for Cove Bay Water treatment plant

A Message from the Mayor

On March 11, 2017  the Federal and Provincial governments announced the successful applications for Building Canada grants.

I am very pleased to report that our application for $3,890,367 to help us build a new Cove Bay Water treatment plant has been approved.

Update on Community Centre

Bowen Island Municipality is moving forward with the strategic priority of a Community Centre for Bowen Island.

The proposed civic building, a 14,300 square foot facility providing community, recreational and performing arts spaces plus municipal offices is to be built on Area 3 of Lot 2 of municipal land (east of Bowen Island Community School).

Snug Cove Parking

More changes are coming to parking in Snug Cove in 2017. With construction underway on the Cove Commons building, the parking lot on the North side of the Library has been removed and the parking lot on the West side is now a combination of 12 hour parking, Library parking, disabled parking and reserved parking spaces. In the Spring, the 12 hour parking in the West lot will be reduced to two hour parking.

Revitalization of Mannion Bay

Bowen Island Municipality has obtained a 30 year tenure (Licence of Occupation) for Mannion Bay from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations with the intent of restoring socioecological integrity in the Bay.

Municipal staff will bring forward a Mannion Bay Update and Implementation Report in April 2017.

Changes to your utility bill

Last year, Council asked us to review our water rate bylaws in the interest of developing consistent charges and to promote a culture of conservation for all Municipal water users.

Tunstall Bay water users were the first to see a new billing system, switching from an annual flat rate to a hybrid metered rate.
