Civic Facilities Working Group

Bowen Island Municipal Council supports the creation of civic facilities for the community and has established a Civic Facilities Working Group (CFWG) to provide recommendations to Council on the design and location of buildings for civic facilities. The CFWG is one of three working groups created by Council under its 2006 Strategic Plan to advance the implementation of the Snug Cove Village Plan (Bylaw 137, 2004).

The task of the CFWG is described in the CFWG Terms of Reference, which were created within the context of Council’s Snug Cove Action Plan, and described in Reshaping Snug Cove: A Framework for Taking Action (June 2006).

Information relating to the work of the CFWG will be posted here on an ongoing basis.

Civic Facilities: Background

In February 2006, the Public Works Superintendent completed a report on the infrastructure issues and site selection regarding the proposed Civic Facility.  The report entitled Proposed Civic Facility Site and Infrastructure Assessment (Feb/06) reviews on-site and off-site infrastructure requirements and costs for the various proposed sites and concepts for the facility.  The report built on the Civic Facility Task Force Report (Oct/05) which was presented to Council in October 2005.

The report was provided for Council’s information and future consideration.  It contains detailed information, conceptual site layouts, and costs; it also draws several conclusions.  No final recommendations are made, and further planning studies must be completed regarding adjacent and other lands in and around Snug Cove.

The report was referred out for comments to various committees and stakeholders for comments, and a Civic Facilities Task Force Report (Jun/06) including referral comments and new information was completed on June 29th, 2006.

These reports will provide the basis for the work of the CFWG within the framework of the Snug Cove Action Plan.
