Municipal water systems

WATER MAIN FLUSHING

As part of its regular water system maintenance program, the Municipality will flush water mains in Bowen Bay, Blue Water Park, Cove Bay, Eagle Cliff, Hood Point, King Edward Bay and Tunstall Bay from October 14 to November 30, 2017. Flushing will take place seven days a week from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and will rotate through each neighbourhood. This procedure does not pose a health hazard, and is necessary to remove sediment that gradually deposits in the pipes.

During the flushing process, temporary water interruptions will occur and your water pressure could be low or turned off completely for periods of time. Municipal staff will try to minimize inconvenience where possible.

Please check alerts or follow the BIM Facebook Page for daily updates. You may also notice signs in your neighbourhood while flushing is underway.

Every effort will be made to ensure that water quality is not affected, but some turbidity and higher than normal chlorine concentrations may be present for short periods of time. Running your tap briefly should clear this up.

Please note:

  • The water mains in the areas Snug Cove, Cates Hill and Village Square including Bowen Island Community School (BICS) and Bowen Island Children’s Center (BCC) will be flushed on Saturday, October 14, early in the morning so as to alleviate water interruption for BICS and BCC.
  • The water main of Artisan Square will be flushed early in the morning of October 16 and 17.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 604-947-4255 or bim@bimbc.ca

Reminder: it is recommended that water users with compromised immune systems ensure their drinking water is boiled, filtered or distilled.
